Cbs News Radio Wbbm: Attorney Len Goodman Wonders if His Client, Gitmo Detainee #899, Will Ever Get a Trial
| CHICAGO (WBBM) – As the speculation swirls about moving accused terrorists to Thomson, Illinois, a Chicago lawyer who is representing one of the detainees at Guantanamo is wondering about the future of his client.The client is Shawali Khan, a man in his mid-40s, with family in Afghanistan.”He’s a shopkeeper from Kandahar who was picked up a mile from his home by Afghans who sold him to the Americans for a bounty.”Chicago attorney Leonard Goodman is representing Khan pro bono, at no chargeKhan has been held for more than seven years with no trial.”He’s never going to get a trial because there’s no evidence against him. The only evidence they have is these allegations from the people that captured him who say he’s a terrorist. That’s it. And they don’t even have the names of the people that made the allegation.”The federal government says Khan has been associated with al Qaida.It is not clear what Khan’s future will be.
